One of Hutch’s S4 wardrobe additions, this claw or tusk shaped necklace is often seen together with his favorite moon-and-star necklace. UPDATE 2023-11-19: I long thought this necklace could be some plastic trinket, then suspected it might be an abalone shell tusk, but now a fellow fan saved the day and identified the object with certainty: the pendant is originally an antique Chinese fingernail guard, an ornate metal piece worn on a fingertip to protect long fingernails (I added a more detailed picture of a nail guard in the photo for comparison – the shape and structure are a definite match). Apparently they were sold in headshops in the US in the 1970s; the narrow end could also be used as a cocaine spoon. As the nail guards were often made of silver and beautifully decorated, a lot of them have simply been turned into other kinds of jewelry when imported into western countries: pins, brooches, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Thanks, Kath, for solving this mystery!
There are some photos of David wearing the necklace outside S&H, so it was most likely his own.

LOL, that was fast!
Can I just say that I’ve always loathed that necklace. It gives me the creeps. Not sure why. Maybe because it’s so pointy and sharp. 😃

Heh, wanted to get it off my to-do list immediately instead of accidentally letting it wait for years (like some “quick and important corrections” I’ve been meaning to make to one of my due South posts on Tumblr… oh god).
This necklace was never a particular favorite of mine but I didn’t mind it. Now I notice its original context is making me feel a bit uncomfortable because I don’t like the thought of nails long enough to need such a cover (aesthetically, let alone on my own fingers).
