Hutch’s Brown Fur Collar Jacket — February 1, 1978

Hutch’s Brown Fur Collar Jacket

Even though it’s worn only three times in late S3, this leather jacket is a memorable one. Not only for its looks, but for its surprise appearance in Foxy Lady – in the early squad room scene, Hutch walks away to the water fountain wearing his favorite light-color leather jacket, bends down to pour some water and, whoa, next thing he’s wearing this jacket.

Hutch wears it in:

03-16 The Trap
03-18 Class in Crime
03-20 Foxy Lady

Hutch’s Black Leather Jacket (S2-S4)

If you ask me, this is the perfect jacket for Hutch. Thankfully, he wore it in over 20 episodes, including some in S4, where it really, really saved his look. It has a narrow, medium-length cut that really suits him and a perfect wide collar to pop up and give contrast to his blond hair – and it’s black and shiny and quite timeless.

Hutch wears it in:

02-08 The Specialist
02-11 Nightmare
02-12 Iron Mike
02-15 The Psychic
02-17 The Set-Up, Part 2

Hutch’s Dark Green Jacket — November 2, 1976

Hutch’s Dark Green Jacket

It seemed to me like Hutch wore this jacket all the time, but no, only in four episodes. Again, this was David’s own jacket, he wears it in a lot of photos (including the famous behind-the-scenes photo in which he kisses Paul on the set of Murder Ward).

Hutch wears it in:

02-10 Vendetta
02-13 Little Girl Lost
03-01 Starsky and Hutch on Playboy Island, Part 1
03-14 The Heavyweight

Hutch’s Brownish/Greenish Leather Jacket — September 25, 1976

Hutch’s Brownish/Greenish Leather Jacket

This minimalist leather jacket –  very short, no collar, no pockets, small buttons, satin lining in the exact same color – looks sometimes like it’s a warm tan color, sometimes like it’s pale greenish. Hard to tell what the color really is.

It’s Hutch’s favorite jacket in S2-S3 (worn in 25 episodes, then in 2 episodes in S4).

Hutch wears it in:

02-01 The Las Vegas Strangler, Part 1
02-02 The Las Vegas Strangler, Part 2
02-05 Gillian
02-06 Bust Amboy
02-07 The Vampire

Hutch’s Black Leather Jacket (S1) — November 19, 1975

Hutch’s Black Leather Jacket (S1)

Hutch rocks this very short black leather jacket with straps at collar and waistband. It’s a pity it was only seen in four episodes. Thankfully David also wore it in the legendary Century City photo shoot where he and Paul goofed around to their hearts’ content.

Hutch wears it in:

01-11 Captain Dobey, You’re Dead
01-18 The Omaga Tiger
01-19 Jo-Jo
01-20 Running
02-15 The Psychic (the opening scene recycled from The Omaha Tiger)

Hutch’s Green/White Baseball Jacket — April 30, 1975

Hutch’s Green/White Baseball Jacket

Although it looks black-and-white most of the time on screen, the body of the jacket is very dark green.

If you’re looking for a perfect replica, you’ll probably have hard time finding one. In addition to the dark green wool, the details that matter are the light-blue lining, the dark green snaps, and the single-striped knits with double-length cuffs and collar (also notice the stripe on the cuffs and collar is not as wide as in the waistband). Hutch often wears the cuffs folded over, while the collar is usually standing.

Hutch wears it in:

00-00 The Pilot
01-15 The Hostages
01-17 Silence
01-18 The Omaha Tiger
01-20 Running
01-21 The Bounty Hunter
02-17 The Set-Up, Part 2
03-21 Quadromania
04-20 Targets Without a Badge, Part 3
04-22 Sweet Revenge

The Compendium also mentions Discomania and Playboy Island – if the jacket really appears in those episodes, please let me know where! Technically, the jacket also appears in Vendetta, where Hutch is wearing it in the photo Tommy steals.
